Effects of Aqua - acupuncture using Ursi Fel Bovis Calculus, Susi Fel Bovis Calculus on Adjuvant Arthritis in rats.

Abstract

|
|
This study was carried out to find out the effect of Ursi Fel·bovis Calculus and Susi Fel·Bovis calculus on adjuvant arthritis in rats. Using aqua-acupuncture on ST_(36) and GB_(39), different ratio of herbal medicine combination, was used. The composition of Ursi Fel and Susi Fel was analyzed, and the effects of aqua-acupuncture using Ursi Fel·Bovis Calculus and Susi Fel·Bovis Calculus on activity of PGE₂ and rheumatoid factor, change of paw edema and body weight, were observed.
The obtained results were as follows :
The composition of fatty acids and bile acids from Ursi Fel and Susi Fel were very similar each other. the activity of PGE₂ from the plasma in the treatment group (VII, II, VIII, VI) was less than the control (P<0.05) with the highest significance in Group V (P<0.0001). The activity of rheumatoid factor was significantly deceased in Group I, III, IV, V, VII compared with control. The inhibitory rate of paw edema was the most significant in Group III with other Groups VII, IV, VIII, I in order. The ratio of body weight changes was increased in treatment groups generally with significance in Groups II and IV compared with control.
Overall, the effect of aqua-acupuncture using Ursi Fel·Bovis Calculus and Susi Fel·Bovis Calculus on adjuvant arthritis was similar each other. The inflammatory effect was somewhat better in the latter than the former. It implies the possibility of alternative organ rather than Ursi Fel as far as the safety and toxicology studies done in the future.
